The Post Barn in Newbury
The Post Barn is a contemporary English oak barn in the Berkshire countryside. The team behind it set out to build a high spec, bespoke barn destination and worked with local firms from planning to completion. ARK architects were responsible for the design, Archibald Shaw handled the precision engineering and Morris and Blunt carried out the construction. The result combines slick, contemporary architecture with the warmth of oak. A floor-to-ceiling glass window overlooks the gardens and connects the Post room to the outside, and roaring open fires add character to the interior.
Outside, the terrace is spacious and bordered by perfumed planters, and an outdoor kitchen supports alfresco feasting. The green, the gardens and the pavilion offer plenty of places for photographs, and the bar area with its feature fireplace, The Rafters mezzanine and the covered areas of the terrace give indoor-feeling spots if the weather turns. Planning is personal and flexible. The venue keeps a list of recommended suppliers covering florists, cake specialists, photographers, videographers, musicians, DJs, hair and make-up, and sitters, including childcare and dog sitters. The lawns are beautifully manicured and look out over the Berkshire countryside. The venue has hosted weddings for at least five years.
