Amber Mollison and Angel Lion Weddings and Events

Venice has no roads, and that single fact shapes every wedding held in it. Flowers, chairs, wine, cake and guests all arrive by boat and then by hand, over bridges with steps on both sides, so tides, canals and water doors decide what is possible.

Angel Lion Events is a boutique planning and production company based in Santa Croce, founded by Amber Mollison. She grew up in America, has lived in Venice for twenty years and speaks fluent Italian. Before weddings she worked as a photographic producer, running shoots with a crew, a budget and a hard call time, and she brings the same discipline to a wedding timeline.

The company is a full service creative event production company rather than a wedding planner. Its work covers event design and creative direction, logistics, location scouting, vendor coordination, prop building, decor sourcing, styling and photo direction, in the city, across the Veneto among the Palladian villas and vineyards, and further south in Tuscany and Puglia.

Couples are also advised on the civil side. The company's website lays out the Comune di Venezia's ceremony tariff for Palazzo Cavalli, Ca' Loredan, Ca' Farsetti and the Casino di Venezia, translator costs, and the documents required from EU, American, Canadian and Australian couples. Only Venetian residents may marry on a Saturday morning.

Smaller commissions are welcome too. Amber takes consulting work for couples who want to organise more of the day themselves, and plans elopements as readily as full productions.

Questions couples ask

Before you write to them

What makes a Venice wedding different?

There are no roads. Every guest, flower, chair and case of wine arrives by boat and is carried over bridges, so the plan is built around water, tides and timing.

What does a civil ceremony cost at Venice city hall?

At Palazzo Cavalli the weekday morning fee is €600 for EU citizens and €1,600 for non EU citizens, including British couples. Afternoons, pre-holiday working days and public holidays cost more, up to €3,500. Ca' Loredan adds €2,000, Ca' Farsetti €3,000 and the Casino di Venezia €5,000.

Can we marry on a Saturday?

Only residents of Venice may marry on a Saturday morning. Saturday afternoons follow the weekday afternoon tariff.

What paperwork do foreign couples need?

Requirements vary by passport. All couples need full birth certificates showing both parents, proof that any earlier marriage has ended, and passports. Documents issued outside the EU are valid for six months and must be legalised and translated into Italian.

Where does the company work?

From its base in Santa Croce, Venice, it works in the city, the Veneto, Tuscany and Puglia.

Who is Amber Mollison?

The founder. She grew up in America, has lived in Venice for twenty years, speaks fluent Italian and worked as a photographic producer before founding the company.
