Family villa estate with frescoed salons, infinity pool and thermal grotto above Bagni di Lucca, Tuscany
Burlamacchi Villas is a historic estate in the hills above Bagni di Lucca, held by the Burlamacchi family since 1220 and let to one wedding at a time, with 18 rooms and suites, an infinity pool and in-house catering.
Burlamacchi Villas stands in the green hills above Bagni di Lucca, the old thermal town north of Lucca, among olive terraces, cypress and chestnut woods. The estate has belonged to the Burlamacchi family, a Lucchese name since 1220, and the family still runs it. Its villas date from the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries and include frescoed salons, a walled garden and an infinity pool set against the hills. A 14th-century thermal grotto, the oldest spa in the area, is also open to guests.
One wedding is hosted at a time, over a minimum of three nights. Symbolic ceremonies take place in the olive grove, the lemon garden or beneath the fig tree, and dinner is served in the frescoed rooms for up to 70 guests or across the gardens and terraces for up to 100. A resident chef cooks Tuscan and Campanian menus, with a wood-fired oven for pizza nights. Eighteen rooms and suites sleep up to 40 guests. Lucca is about 30 minutes away and Pisa Airport about 40.

The Burlamacchi family, a Lucchese name since 1220, still runs the estate above Bagni di Lucca. Its villas date from the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries and hold frescoed salons, a walled garden and a view of olive terraces, cypresses and chestnut woods.

Symbolic ceremonies are held in the olive grove, in the lemon garden or beneath the estate's fig tree. An aperitivo by the pool follows, before dinner is laid in the frescoed rooms or out across the terraces.

Catering is entirely in-house, with Tuscan and Campanian menus built on ingredients from nearby farms and groves and paired with wine by a sommelier. A wood-fired oven produces focaccia and late-night pizzas, and cooking classes fill the days around the wedding.

An infinity pool looks across to the hills, and the estate has access to a 14th-century thermal grotto, the oldest spa in the area. Treatments are offered in the suites, under the olive trees or in a garden pavilion.

Burlamacchi Villas is above Bagni di Lucca, the old thermal town in the green hills north of Lucca. It is thirty minutes from the walls of Lucca, forty minutes from Pisa and its airport, and an hour from Florence, yet it sits in a fold of countryside that the crowds never find. Olive terraces, chestnut woods and the Lima river valley are the view; the cities of art are a short drive when you want them.
