Townhouse hotel in the former Shire Hall · Reading, Berkshire
A townhouse hotel in a restored Edwardian mansion in Reading, where weddings stay under one roof, from the ceremony and reception to the wedding night.
The Roseate Reading is a townhouse hotel in a restored Edwardian listed mansion on The Forbury, in the middle of the town. Fireplaces, wood carvings and works of art sit alongside contemporary design, so the building keeps its period character while the rooms and event spaces feel current. Weddings here are planned around the couple rather than from a standard template. Each one is shaped around the couple, from simple, intimate ceremonies to larger celebrations, with a dedicated wedding planner and an expert team on hand to see that the day runs smoothly from the first moment to the last. The same rooms also host birthday parties, anniversary dinners and reunions. The team is practised at events of every scale.
Couples planning the day under one roof can get ready in one of the rooms or suites, hold the ceremony in one of the event spaces and carry on to the reception without coordinating different venues. The hotel can also be taken for exclusive use, which gives the wedding party total privacy across the main hotel, the lounges, the cinema and The Reading Room Restaurant & Bar, with the pricing agreed individually. The private cinema, Upstage Mini, is another way for couples to spend time before the wedding, and the spa is on site.

Ceremonies take place in the Eden Room, the Library or the Cellar. The Eden Room was the original Berkshire County Council Chamber. Its walls are covered with hand painted flowers, it keeps its original fireplace, and floor-to-ceiling Georgian windows bring in natural daylight. The Library has large windows facing Forbury Square and a fireplace. The Cellar is contemporary in design, discreet and well appointed, with a boardroom style table. The Library and the Cellar are the more intimate settings.

The Library connects with the Lobby Room, where guests can begin the celebration with conversation and cocktails before dinner. The Reading Room Restaurant & Bar can be hired exclusively for the evening, with a minimum spend that covers an evening buffet or snacks, pre-ordered wines, cocktails, beers or soft drinks. Couples choose between a pre-paid bar tab and a cash bar. The Secret Garden opens from The Reading Room, an al fresco setting beside a gentle waterfall and a pomegranate tree. The Whisky Room, within the bar, is an exclusive setting for intimate gatherings.

The 55 rooms and suites are split between the classic main Hotel and the contemporary House. The Hotel has Classic Bedrooms, Premium Suites and Executive Suites, and the House has House Junior Suites, House Premium Suites and House Studios. Every room and suite in the House has direct access to the Aheli Spa and Gym. Couples who want a wedding staycation can arrive the night before and spend their wedding night in a suite, and preferential rates are available for their guests.

Catering is in-house. The Intimate, Luxury and Roseate packages each centre on the Eden Room or Library for the ceremony and wedding breakfast, moving from a three-course set menu to three-course and then five-course seasonal à la carte menus with upgraded wines. Drinks include Prosecco after the ceremony and Pommery Champagne for the toast. The Reading Room Restaurant & Bar serves modern European cooking made with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, and wedding menus can also take the form of canapés, buffets or Afternoon Tea.
