Locanda in Tuscany is reached by a dirt road of 1.5 kilometres that ends in a courtyard in the Val d’Orcia, close to the medieval village of Castiglione d’Orcia. The building is a private country mansion from the seventeenth century, renovated in keeping with Tuscan tradition, and a wedding here uses the land around it: a garden, a pergola beside the pool, a wheat field and, since the early 2020s, a lavender field.
Locanda in Tuscany describes its approach as an intimate one, with the landscape part of the celebration. This article looks at how that works in practice, from the ceremony settings to the old stable that serves as the restaurant, and at what a couple should confirm before they enquire.
A mansion at the end of a dirt road
The Val d’Orcia is a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of vineyards, wheat fields and hilltop villages, and Locanda in Tuscany stands among them. The address is Podere Moro Fiacchi. The photographs show a stone farmhouse with terracotta roofs, a gravel courtyard, and a separate building known as the dependance near the pool, with fields beyond.
The approach matters to a wedding because it sets the terms. Parking is on site, so guests arrive at one place and stay in it. The nearest airports, according to the Casas Latinas collection to which Locanda in Tuscany belongs, are Florence at 120 kilometres and Rome Fiumicino at 220, and airport transfers and a chauffeur service are listed among the property’s extra services.

Four places to marry, none of them a ballroom
Symbolic and civil ceremonies can be held across different areas of the grounds, each with its own atmosphere, according to Locanda in Tuscany. The garden is the most conventional of them, a setting among greenery. The pergola by the pool is the more intimate and secluded setting, and the photographs show a reed roofed structure with the pool and the hills beyond it. The wheat field gives open views over the valley, and the photographs show an aisle running between rows of chairs with hay bales at the far end.
The fourth setting is newer. In 2020 and 2021 Locanda in Tuscany planted a lavender field of 4,000 plants, as part of a project it calls Amore Toscano. Locanda in Tuscany says the planting was meant to recover part of the landscape without spoiling it. The lavender is harvested by hand in July and August, then dried for use in the kitchen, in cocktails and desserts, and in the bedrooms to perfume cabinets and drawers. The field is offered as a ceremony setting, and since the lavender is harvested in July and August, its appearance depends on the season.
For a religious ceremony, Locanda in Tuscany points couples to the historic churches nearby. It also offers the Vitaleta Chapel, which belongs to the Dolcevita Valdorcia collection that Locanda in Tuscany is part of. The chapel is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the valley, and Locanda in Tuscany describes an option to marry there, hold the reception at Vitaleta with its catering, or return to Locanda for the celebration and the night.

From ceremony to dinner on the same land
The reception is where the arrangement is most distinctive. Receptions take place in the courtyard, the gardens and the wheat field, for up to 200 seated guests. The photographs show what that looks like at different scales: a long table in the gravel courtyard, another under a vine in front of the stone building, and a table laid in the open field with chandeliers hung from curved stands. A wedding tent is one of the reception settings in its wedding gallery.
The pool sits at the centre of the layout. The pool is a 20 metre outdoor pool with 360 degree views over the valley, and beside it is a patio with an outdoor fireplace that Locanda in Tuscany suggests for continuing the evening. The pergola, the pool and the patio with its fireplace sit beside one another.

The restaurant in the old stable
The Taverna di Mozart is the restaurant, cut out of an old stable beside the pool, with a terrace outdoors. It serves traditional Tuscan dishes and regional wines, and Locanda in Tuscany says the furnishings and Italian music of the 1950s recreate a vintage setting. For a wedding it takes up to 60 guests indoors. The room has a brick vault and a brick floor.
Catering is open. Couples can use the in-house restaurant for a traditional Tuscan menu, or ask for a more contemporary approach developed with Vitaleta Gourmet, another part of the Dolcevita Valdorcia collection. External catering can also be accommodated. Wedding menus and per head prices are not set out, so the cost of food and drink is a question for the first conversation.
The kitchen draws on the Amore Toscano project. Locanda in Tuscany says it selects natural and mostly organic products from suppliers in the Tuscan countryside, and that these appear in the room minibars, at breakfast, at lunch and dinner in the Taverna and at the aperitif by the pool. It names local gin and a regional soft drink called spuma, flours ground from ancient grains and homemade pasta among them. The same project, it says, involves local producers, wineries, spas, fashion ateliers and leather workers.

Nine rooms, or the whole property
Guests stay on site. Locanda in Tuscany has nine rooms in five categories: Double Deluxe, Superior Double Deluxe, Grand Deluxe, Superior Grand Deluxe and Suite, divided between the main building and the dependance near the pool. Some have a private patio, some look over the valley, and some have fireplaces. The beds are handcrafted by local artisans without metal, which Locanda in Tuscany presents as better for sleep, and guests are asked before arrival whether they prefer linen or cotton sheets. Pets are welcome. Facilities listed for guests include a heated swimming pool, breakfast, a concierge service, air conditioning and free wifi, with equipment available for children.
Nine rooms limit the number of guests who can sleep on the land, a point that matters for a reception that can seat 200. The alternative is to take everything. The whole of Locanda in Tuscany can be rented exclusively as a villa for between 1 and 24 people, and the Casas Latinas collection gives a starting price of 7,000 euros a day for exclusive use. Locanda in Tuscany itself states no wedding price. Where the remaining guests will sleep is a question for the planning stage; Locanda in Tuscany lists agreements with nearby hotels, villas and spas.
Smaller celebrations, and the days around the wedding
Large receptions are not the only format. Locanda in Tuscany also offers micro weddings, elopements and pool parties, which it describes as tailor made, with a cocktail bar and music or a Tuscan barbecue. These are the occasions on which a couple might use the pool and pergola without the full grounds. Locanda in Tuscany presents a wedding as an experience that develops over time, from preparation through the celebration to the days that follow, and the guest services list suggests how those days might be filled: wine and cheese tastings, truffle hunting, horse riding, hot air ballooning, guided tours and hot springs, each offered at a starting price. The wider valley is covered in the Val d’Orcia destination guide.

Planning a wedding at Locanda in Tuscany
Several details are open. Locanda in Tuscany hosts symbolic and civil ceremonies, but the legal requirements for a civil ceremony in Italy are not set out. Capacity is 200 seated guests outdoors and 60 indoors, with no figure for each ceremony setting, no stated policy on music and end times, and no stated wet weather arrangements. Wedding pricing exists only as the collection’s starting figure for exclusive use.
The listing holds the structured details, including the room types, the amenities and the contact route, in the Locanda in Tuscany profile. A longer set of photographs is in the Locanda in Tuscany magazine issue.
For travel, the Casas Latinas collection gives Florence as 120 kilometres away and Rome Fiumicino as 220 kilometres. The whole house can also be taken as a villa for between one and 24 people, which the property presents separately from its wedding use.
A wedding that stays on the land
Locanda in Tuscany suits couples who want a wedding that stays on the land: a ceremony in a field or by a pergola, dinner at a long table in the courtyard or the open, and guests who stay on the property. It is a property of nine rooms with a restaurant of its own, so the largest weddings will need a plan for guest accommodation, and the lavender and wheat settings depend on the season. The principal planning consideration is the guest count against the beds.
