About Villa di Catignano

Villa di Catignano is a 17th-century villa among the vineyards of Chianti Classico, 8 km from Siena, with an Italian garden, a private chapel, a pool and apartments for a whole wedding party.

Villa di Catignano stands on a cypress-shaded hill in the Chianti Classico wine region, 8 km north east of Siena, within 600 acres of vineyards and olive groves. Monsignor Lodovico Sergardi, a writer who published under the name Quinto Settano, built it at the end of the 17th century, and the estate had belonged to the Sergardi family since the 1500s. The entrance hall still carries the family coat of arms, and the frescoed rooms above it are now furnished as apartments.

A double flight of steps leads from the villa to the Giardino all'Italiana, where box-edged beds, lemon trees in terracotta pots and the statues of the Four Seasons set the scene for ceremonies and aperitivo. The private chapel hosts Anglican or Protestant services, and the courtyard and terrace serve for dinners. Indoors, the vaulted Tinaia Hall and the Grey Hall give cover for larger receptions. The whole party can stay on the estate, and a 15-metre pool looks across the hills to the towers of Siena.

A villa built by a Sienese monsignor

Monsignor Lodovico Sergardi, a writer who published as Quinto Settano, built the villa at the end of the 17th century. The Sergardi family estate, then called Clatinianum, already stood here in the 1500s, and the entrance hall still carries the family coat of arms and its motto, Expertus fidelem.

May 2026 Wedding

We used Villa Catignano for our destination wedding in May 2026. I could not recommend this wonderful place enough. From the staff friendliness and services provided to us during our 5 day stay, to the amazing grounds where we held our wedding events…. They were so helpful, kind, and professional. We love Villa Catignano and it will always hold a special place in our hearts. We cannot wait to be back. 💕

Really one of a kind!

We had our wedding at Villa Catignano in June, and it was an absolute dream! Every apartment is beautiful, full of character, and spotlessly clean. We also really appreciated that accessible accommodation was available, making the stay more comfortable and inclusive for our guests.

The venue itself is truly breathtaking, with so many gorgeous outdoor spaces that can be used for the different moments of a wedding celebration, including the beautiful pool area. Every corner feels special and provides the most incredible backdrop for photos and memories.

What made our experience even more wonderful was the team (Elisabetta, Eleonora and Sofia). Everyone was incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful, and they made us feel so well looked after throughout our stay. We could not have imagined a more magical place to celebrate our wedding, and neither we nor our guests wanted to leave!

We would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, authentic, and truly special wedding venue in Tuscany.
