Alessandro Mari Photography

Alessandro Mari began working as a photographer in 2010. In 2013 he founded Alessandro Mari Photography in the centre of Terni with his wife Elisa, and together they decided to concentrate entirely on weddings.

In the summer of 2018 the studio moved to Stroncone, the village where they live. They restored an old cellar in a historic building and made it their workplace, with a garden of plants and flowers looking over the Umbrian mountains. Couples are welcome to have a coffee there, talk through their plans and ask for advice.

Their approach is a natural, bright reportage of the day. They love the waiting, the emotions and the spontaneous gestures, and they look for the right light, the details and natural settings rather than staged pictures. They are present from the bride's preparation through to the end of the party.

The studio today is made up of two photographers, Alessandro and Elisa, and two videographers, Emilia and Simona. Emilia, who is originally from England, leads the wedding films, which are made with natural audio, careful pacing and chosen music, and is supported by Simona as second shooter.

They are based in Umbria and photograph destination weddings across Umbria and Tuscany, and elsewhere in Italy and abroad, including events in London, Santorini and Kenya.

How they work

From the first message to the day itself

  1. 01Get in touch early

Contact the studio as soon as you have a date. They shoot many weddings through the year and availability is limited. You are booked once the signed contract and a deposit are received.

  2. 02Engagement session

While you wait for the wedding, they can photograph an engagement session. You choose the place and the kind of shoot that best represents you, and it is a chance to meet before the day.

  3. 03Final details

About 7 to 10 days before the wedding they agree arrival times and go through the whole plan of the day. For a venue visit, they prefer to arrive well ahead on the day itself, or the day before for travel weddings, so they can see the light and the layout.

  4. 04The wedding day

Coverage runs up to 12 hours, starting about 2 hours before the bride leaves for the ceremony. Two photographers and/or two videographers attend, with a third operator possible if the event needs it. One photographer and one videographer go to the bride, and the others to the groom an hour before he leaves.

  5. 05Editing and delivery

They take the time to edit properly rather than rush. A wedding in April is typically delivered in about a month, while an October wedding can take up to around six months. For the film, they choose the music, and you may suggest two guide tracks.

  6. 06Album

They design the story of the day into a photo album and personally look after its presentation and packaging.
