Giuseppe Suma photographs weddings from Ceglie Messapica, a town in the province of Brindisi in Puglia. He studied photography and post-production before turning a long fascination with the camera into his profession, and his About page says he has refined his style over the years by telling stories through light, detail and real emotion.
He sums up his approach as discreet, spontaneous and natural, with a strong cinematic influence, and says he wants each picture to look like a frame from a film. His galleries show what that means in practice: a bride waiting at an open window, guests crowding in to cheer a couple after the ceremony, a couple walking through the evening party in black and white. Colour is soft and warm, and a good part of each wedding is given in black and white.
“I want every shot to reflect the essence of whoever is in front of my camera”
Giuseppe Suma
On the day he follows the story from the preparations of the bride and groom to the last dance. In his own words for Junebug Weddings, he aims to be a calm, unobtrusive observer so that couples can simply live the day, and he works especially well with international couples who are marrying in Italy or elsewhere in Europe and want a relaxed, well organised experience from start to finish.
Puglia is home ground. His published weddings include trulli and stone courtyards in the Valle d'Itria, olive groves and sunset country roads in the Salento, and a celebration in the Puglian countryside between a French bride and an Italian groom. A Siena collection places a couple in a palazzo above Piazza del Campo, and his engagement gallery follows one couple through a morning in Paris, from the Sacré-Coeur to the banks of the Seine.
Alongside weddings he offers engagement sessions, portrait sessions and drone photography, which he says adds a cinematic view from above for weddings and events. His website does not publish package contents, delivery times or prices, so these are best discussed when you first get in touch.
