Riverside grand hotel on the Strand · Strand and Covent Garden, London
5.01 reviewA London hotel on the Strand where weddings span the Lancaster Ballroom, the River Room and historic private dining rooms, with a chapel on site.
The Savoy stands on the Strand in central London, with the Savoy Chapel, once the King's Chapel, among its wedding spaces. Princess Elizabeth was photographed as a bridesmaid at a Savoy wedding, beside the man who would become Prince Philip, and the hotel's wedding history runs from society unions to modern celebrations. Weddings take place across a suite of historic spaces, from the gilded Lancaster Ballroom and the light River Room to smaller private dining rooms with histories of their own. The hotel was not built in a single stylistic sweep but evolved through two design eras that still sit side by side, Edwardian and Art Deco, and both run through its rooms and suites.
The hotel's planners look after the whole day, from dressing for the wedding to the final dance. The vows, the reception and the champagne toasts are shaped as one celebration, and every detail is personalised. Many of the bedrooms and suites are part of the wedding as well, so a couple can marry, celebrate and spend the wedding night under one roof, with river views from the Thames side of the building. Royal moments, famous names and contemporary celebrations all share the same London backdrop, and generations of couples have chosen to marry here.

The Savoy Chapel is on site, and ceremonies at The Savoy take up to 400 guests.

The Lancaster Ballroom is one of the hotel's most eminent venues and the largest of The Savoy's events rooms, suited to every occasion. The double-height River Room has views over Embankment Gardens and works as a bright daytime venue and as an evening space. The Abraham Lincoln room has hosted everything from a royal wedding breakfast to a private dinner in a flower-filled bower. Princess Ida & Patience began as two of the original private rooms, joined when the dividing wall was removed. The Gondoliers room is named for a Savoy Opera, and the Pinafore room, once frequented by Winston Churchill, has an early Art Deco interior. Standing receptions take up to 300 guests.

The Savoy has 263 rooms and suites. Edwardian rooms use a palette of grey and tangerine that runs from the fabrics to the Nespresso machines, with some looking across the Thames. Art Deco rooms on the Strand side lean into golds and caramels. The Savoy Suite has commanding views over the Thames, the Terrace Suite is the only suite with a terrace, and the Royal Suite is a procession of rooms on the river side of the fifth floor.

Catering is in house, and in-house florists design the floral arrangements. Three Gordon Ramsay restaurants are on site: Savoy Grill, the River Restaurant and the Michelin-starred Restaurant 1890. Gallery serves classic dishes with a twist and traditional Afternoon Tea. The American Bar is the longest surviving cocktail bar in London, and the Beaufort Bar has jet-black and gold decor.

Amazing as always. The Savoy remains the quintessential benchmark for London hospitality, where quiet luxury and intentional elegance are woven into every interaction. It is rare to find a venue that balances such a storied heritage with a service that feels so modern and intuitive."
