The best time of year to marry in Tuscany, month by month

How the month changes price, heat, light and food at a Tuscan wedding, with the seasonal rates one of our venues publishes.

The Tuscan wedding season runs from April to October, and May, June and September are the months couples ask for most. The month you choose sets four things: the price, the heat at ceremony time, how the landscape looks and what is on the table. This guide goes through the year with the figures our listed venues publish, so you can weigh a month against the alternatives rather than by reputation.

How the season shows up in the price

Venues price by season, and one of ours publishes the bands. Relais La Costa, near Monteriggioni, sets its 2026 to 2027 rates for exclusive use of its eight suites per night:

Those are the figures in its wedding brochure, before the EUR 2,500 wedding fee and dinner. The same weekend night costs EUR 1,500 less in October than in September, a few weeks apart. Rates for December to February are not published.

April and May

Spring is green, with gardens at their best and long evenings arriving in May. Nights can still be cool, so a dinner outdoors needs heaters or a covered fallback. April sits in Relais La Costa’s low season, and May moves into mid season.

For a spring wedding, look for venues with a good indoor room for dinner. Villa Il Cerretino, near Prato, has a glazed Winter Garden onto its Garden of the Well, heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer, and indoor rooms for up to 180.

June

June gives the longest days of the year and reliably warm evenings, before the hottest weeks. It is mid season at Relais La Costa, so it still costs less than July to September there. It is also the month many couples want, so the best Saturdays go first.

July and August

High summer is the hottest and driest part of the year, and the hills turn gold. Couples who marry now usually hold the ceremony late in the afternoon, move the drinks into shade and dine after dark.

Ask where the ceremony sits at 5pm. An open terrace facing west takes the full sun; a garden under trees or a cloister does not. August is also the Italian holiday month, so check that the suppliers you want are working.

September and October

The grape harvest runs through September and into October, and the light softens. Wine estates are at their busiest and most beautiful. Castello di Velona, above the Brunello vineyards near Montalcino, and Villa Mangiacane, which makes its own Chianti Classico in the hills south of Florence, both sit in working wine country.

September is the last month of high season at Relais La Costa. October drops to low season, which is why it rewards couples who can accept cooler evenings and an earlier sunset.

November to March

Outside the season, weddings are smaller and mostly indoors, and it is worth asking whether a country venue is open at all. November brings the new olive oil and the white truffle: San Miniato holds its national white truffle fair on weekends in the second half of November, according to italia.it, Italy’s national tourism portal.

Borgo Bucciano is in the hills of San Miniato, with its own olive oil, indoor areas and receptions for up to 300. In Florence, The St. Regis Florence holds dinners of up to 250 in its frescoed ballroom, so the weather does not decide the day.

Midweek or weekend

The day of the week moves the price as much as the month. At Relais La Costa a midweek night is EUR 300 to EUR 700 cheaper than a weekend night in the same season, and the minimum stay is two nights rather than three. A midweek night in October, from EUR 2,800, is 39 per cent less than a September weekend night, from EUR 4,600.

Booking windows

How far ahead to book, and which months fill first, are covered in the Tuscany Wedding Atlas. The practical point here is to hold two or three dates when you first enquire, ideally one in a shoulder month, so each venue can quote against the date it can actually offer.

Questions couples ask

Which month is cheapest?

At the venue that publishes seasonal rates, March, April, October and November share the lowest band. Midweek in those months is the lowest price of all.

Is August too hot for an outdoor ceremony?

It can be, in the middle of the day. A late-afternoon ceremony in shade, with dinner after sunset, is the usual answer.

Can we marry in winter?

Yes, at venues that stay open and have indoor rooms for the full guest list. Ask each venue whether it is open on your date, as winter rates are often not published.
