Giuliano Bausano

Giuliano Bausano is an Italian photographer based in Rome. He says he has photographed weddings for more than fifteen years and documented over 500 of them, and that around nine in ten of his couples come from abroad, many from Ireland, as well as the UK, the US and Canada. He takes a limited number of weddings each year.

His work is reportage: he does not set up poses or direct the day, and waits for what actually happens between people. For portraits he gives light guidance so couples look relaxed rather than arranged. The finish is clean and consistent, with no filters, and he mixes colour with black and white. An optional 35mm or medium-format film set can be added for a more tactile look.

Before the wedding he helps build the timeline around the light and the logistics, scouts locations on site or virtually, and works alongside the planner. On the day he describes himself as a guest with a camera, present and unobtrusive. For weddings of more than fifty guests he recommends a second photographer to cover parallel moments.

Most of his published weddings are in and around Rome: the Pantheon, Casina Valadier, Villa Grazioli, Casale Doria Pamphilj, Castello Spizzichina, the Irish College and Borgo di Tragliata, where he has photographed many Irish weddings. He also works in Tuscany, Umbria, Venice, Lake Como, the Amalfi Coast and Puglia, and has photographed weddings in London, Vienna, Slovakia, Romania, Belgium, the Netherlands and Florida.

Couples receive a hand-edited, high-resolution gallery in a private online gallery with personal printing rights; his price guide gives delivery as 9 to 12 weeks. Handmade Italian albums and fine-art prints are designed together after the wedding. His own Vimeo channel holds his wedding films, and the Photo & Film collection adds a videographer and a cinematic film to the photographs.
