A three-day Amalfi Coast wedding itinerary that works

A day-by-day plan for an Amalfi Coast wedding weekend, built around the coast road, the ferry timetable and where your venue sits.

Most Amalfi Coast weddings run over three nights: arrival and a welcome dinner, the wedding, then a day for the sea or the pool with a farewell brunch for those leaving. The plan below is built around the coast’s two constraints, the SS163 road and the boat timetables, and should be adjusted to where your venue sits.

Before you fix the days: where you are based

The eastern end around Vietri sul Mare is the most practical base. It is close to Salerno, with high-speed trains and the Travelmar ferries from Piazza Concordia by the station, and both Hotel Raito, with 77 rooms, and Palazzo Suriano are on the hill above the town.

Ravello is quieter and higher. Villa La Rondinaia there is booked by one party and sleeps 12, from EUR 15,000 a night with a minimum stay, an indicative figure on its 5 Star Weddings listing, so most guests stay in hotels nearby and the itinerary needs transport between them. More on choosing a town is in the Amalfi Coast Wedding Atlas.

Day one: arrival

Day two: the wedding

If you want the legal ceremony on site, ask early. Palazzo Suriano is a registered branch office of the Comune of Vietri sul Mare, so a civil wedding can be held in the house; elsewhere the civil ceremony may need to happen at the town hall.

Day three: the day after

A fourth night

A fourth night turns the third day into a full day on the water and gives a spare day if the sea is rough. It also helps at venues with a minimum stay, which can apply to exclusive hire.

Questions couples ask

How many nights should guests book?

Three is standard and four is comfortable. Tell guests early, because hotels on the coast fill 12 to 18 months ahead for peak dates.

Which day of the week works best?

Many couples marry on a Friday or Saturday so guests travel at the weekend. Midweek dates can be easier to secure; ask venues what they offer.

Can guests rely on the ferries?

For daytime journeys, yes, but not after early evening, and not in rough seas. Plan every evening movement by road or private boat.
