A farewell brunch on the Amalfi Coast, timed to the flights

How to time a farewell brunch to guests' flights, handle luggage and check-out, and run transfers from the table on the Amalfi Coast.

Hold the farewell brunch at the venue, from about 10am to 12.30pm, and work backwards from the earliest flight in the guest list. From Positano or Ravello allow at least 90 minutes by road to Naples Capodichino, more in July and August; from Vietri sul Mare at the eastern end, Salerno’s railway station is about 7 km away.

Work back from the flights

Ask guests for their flight times when they reply to the invitation, then build the brunch around the earliest. A worked example for a 3pm flight from Naples: at the airport by 1pm, which means leaving a Ravello or Positano venue by 11am at the latest, and earlier in high summer, when the coast road is at its slowest.

Guests with evening flights or a train can stay to the end. Open the brunch as a drop-in, so early leavers eat first and say goodbye without the room emptying at once.

The eastern end is easier

Couples marrying above Vietri sul Mare have a shorter way out. Palazzo Suriano is about 1.5 km from Vietri sul Mare station on the Naples to Salerno regional line, and about 7 km from Salerno’s high-speed station, and the hotel can book transfers to Naples airport and to both stations. Hotel Raito sits close by in Raito, with free and valet parking for those who drove.

Luggage and check-out

Agree a late check-out or a luggage room before the weekend, so guests do not eat with their cases beside them. If anyone is leaving by sea, Travelmar includes one carry-on bag up to 45 by 35 by 20 cm and charges EUR 3 for each extra bag, at its 2026 fares.

At Villa La Rondinaia in Ravello, the house is reached on foot from Piazza Duomo, through a pedestrian tunnel and about 350 metres past a private gate. Ask the villa how luggage reaches the cars, and set the departure time with that in mind.

Where and what

A terrace at the venue is the simplest choice: coffee, fruit, pastries, eggs, something savoury from the kitchen and the view one last time. For guests who leave before the brunch, ask the kitchen for a breakfast bag.

Questions couples ask

Do we have to host a farewell brunch?

No, but if most guests leave on the same morning, it gives you a last hour with them and a fixed point for transfers.

What time should the brunch start?

Around 10am suits most weekends: late enough after the wedding, early enough for guests on afternoon flights.

Can guests leave by train?

Yes, from the eastern end. Salerno’s station has high-speed trains and is close to Vietri sul Mare; from Positano or Ravello, the road or the ferry to Salerno comes first.
