Where guests stay for a wedding on the Amalfi Coast: venues with rooms and hotels

Room with a frescoed ceiling and majolica floor. Villa Cimbrone

The records cover ten venues on the Amalfi Coast and Capri, and every one of them has rooms on site. That is a small base, so this guide reports what each record says and says plainly where a record is silent. For most of these hotels and villas the useful question is not whether there are rooms but how many, how many guests they sleep, and whether one wedding can take the whole property.

How big is the stay: three sizes of venue

The room counts recorded run from six at one Ravello villa to 77 at a hotel in Vietri sul Mare. Two venues, Belmond Hotel Caruso and Palazzo Avino, are left out of the groups below because their records do not give a single reliable total for rooms and suites. Ask each hotel for its exact number.

Fewer than ten: three venues. These are small enough that one wedding can fill the house. Palazzo Suriano in Vietri sul Mare has nine rooms, two of them in a restored building in the gardens. Villa La Rondinaia in Ravello has two rooms and four suites and is recorded as sleeping 12. Ca’ P’a Casa Privata in Praiano has seven bedrooms and is recorded as sleeping up to 18.

Ten to 49: two venues. Villa Cimbrone in Ravello has 19 rooms. JK Place Capri has 22 rooms and 8 suites and is recorded as sleeping 44.

50 or more: three venues. These are full-size hotels. Hotel Santa Caterina in Amalfi has 66 rooms and suites, with a further 12 rooms in Casa Marchesa, a historic house among the lemon groves. Capri Palace Jumeirah in Anacapri has 72 rooms and suites. Hotel Raito in Vietri sul Mare has 77 rooms.

A room count is not a bed count. Only three of the ten records say how many guests the rooms sleep: 12 at Villa La Rondinaia, 18 at Ca’ P’a Casa Privata and 44 at JK Place Capri. None of the larger hotels gives a total sleeping figure, so a couple planning for 80 or 100 guests on site should ask each one for the number of beds, not rooms, and where the remaining guests should stay.

Taking the whole place: exclusive use

Five of the ten are recorded as available for exclusive use, meaning one wedding takes the property: Palazzo Suriano, Villa La Rondinaia, Belmond Hotel Caruso, Ca’ P’a Casa Privata and JK Place Capri. For the other five, Hotel Raito, Villa Cimbrone, Palazzo Avino, Hotel Santa Caterina and Capri Palace Jumeirah, no exclusive use is recorded. That is a gap in the record, not a no, and it is the first thing to ask.

The word covers different arrangements. At Belmond Hotel Caruso in Ravello the whole hotel can be booked for a celebration. At JK Place Capri exclusive use reserves the whole hotel for the wedding party: 22 rooms and 8 suites, the garden, the pool and the restaurant and lounge bar. Palazzo Suriano records exclusive use of all nine rooms.

Only two of the ten publish a figure, and they are not like for like. Palazzo Suriano records venue hire from €5,000 to €12,000 depending on the degree of exclusivity, and Villa La Rondinaia records exclusive hire of the villa from €15,000 per night with a minimum stay. Both are indicative. A house of nine rooms and a villa of six are not the same product, so compare what each includes before comparing the totals. Rooms alone do not make a wedding exclusive: a hotel can have rooms to spare and still not be yours alone.

What to ask before you count on the rooms

  • How many guests do the rooms sleep, counting beds and not rooms?
  • Is exclusive use available, for which dates, and what does it include?
  • Are the rooms inside the hire fee, or charged per night on top?
  • Is there a minimum stay, and which nights does it cover?
  • Where should guests stay who do not fit, and how long is the journey by road or boat?
