A family-run five star hotel on the cliffs at the gates of Amalfi, with a beach club and a Michelin starred restaurant
Hotel Santa Caterina is a family-run five star hotel built into the cliffside beside Amalfi, with terraced gardens, a beach club and a veranda and dining room that look over the sea.
Hotel Santa Caterina stands on the cliff at the gates of Amalfi, 700 metres from the town centre on the road towards Positano. Dr Giuseppe Gambardella opened it in 1904 with six rooms, and three generations of the same family have since extended it to 66 rooms and suites, with a further 12 rooms in Casa Marchesa, a historic house among the lemon groves. Gardens of citrus, olive and pine trees and a series of terraces lead down to a beach club cut into the rock, with a salt water pool, a beach bar and a restaurant on a stone terrace.
For a wedding, the hotel offers a secluded veranda and a light-filled dining room, both facing Amalfi, for an intimate banquet or a reception. The kitchen cooks the traditional dishes of the Amalfi Coast, and Glicine, the hotel's restaurant, holds one Michelin star. Rooms have hand-painted majolica floors, marble bathrooms and balconies facing the sea or the garden, and two special suites, Follia Amalfitana and Chalet Giulietta e Romeo, have their own pools and terraces for honeymoons. Guests can walk to Amalfi, take the free shuttle to the centre and port, or arrive by private boat at the hotel jetty. Naples Capodichino airport is 80 km away.
