Weddings in Sicily

Sicily is a land of remarkable contrasts, where ancient Greek temples, magnificent Baroque palaces and dramatic volcanic landscapes reflect centuries of Mediterranean history. From the elegant terraces of Taormina overlooking the Ionian Sea to the honey coloured architecture of Noto and Ragusa, the island offers extraordinary settings for a destination wedding.

Historic palazzi, noble country estates, traditional baglio farmhouses and secluded villas provide opportunities for celebrations rich in character. Beyond the celebrated towns, vineyards, olive groves and the landscapes surrounding Mount Etna reveal Sicily's quieter beauty. With its architectural heritage, exceptional cuisine and deeply rooted traditions, Sicily offers a wedding experience unmistakably its own.

Questions couples ask

Marrying in Sicily

Short answers from what the venues have told us.

Which side of Sicily suits a wedding better, east or west?

The east, around Taormina, Catania and the Val di Noto, has the most established wedding venues and the best air connections through Catania. The west, around Palermo and Trapani, has coastal venues that are less visited and more local in character.

Can a legal marriage take place in a Sicilian baroque church?

A church wedding is open to couples of the relevant faith, or where the concordat applies. Many international couples hold a symbolic ceremony in a historic church and complete the legal paperwork at home.

How is Sicily for vegetarian and dietary requirements?

Sicilian cooking is built on vegetables, with dishes such as caponata, pasta alla Norma and grilled vegetables, so vegetarian guests are well served. Vegan and other requirements are manageable if the caterer is told in advance.

Is Sicily safe for international visitors?

The tourist areas are safe and well serviced, and standard travel precautions apply as in any major destination.
